Diane von Furstenberg

September 2016

Television journalist and former CNN White House correspondent Jessica Yellin led a conversation with Diane von Furstenberg who shared her vision for her next stage in life, her perspectives on strength, the power of women, and the role of confidence and beauty, as well  insights from her own life story.

While renowned for creating the wrap-dress, Diane's commitment to empowering women has been expressed not only through fashion but also philanthropy and mentorship. Her advocacy includes the DVF Awards that honor and support extraordinary women who have had "the courage to fight, the power to survive and the leadership to inspire." Dr. Martine Rothblatt, CEO of United Therapeutics and an inher circle speaker in March 2016, was a 2016 DVF Lifetime Leadership Award winner. Ms. von Furstenberg's family foundation also supports work that "positively impacts the world by improving people’s lives and strengthening communities."

"If you really practice your strength and you feel strong, you don't have to show it off. It's really for you...All of your power is in yourself. It just is. And so you just have to find ways to reach it."

Diane von Furstenberg on the challenge of being a strong woman in business.

"With remarkable honesty and wisdom, von Furstenberg mines the rich territory of what it means to be a woman. She opens up about her family and career, overcoming cancer, building a global brand, and devoting herself to empowering other women. This “inspiring, compelling, deliciously detailed celebrity autobiography…is as much of a smashing success as the determined, savvy, well-intentioned woman who wrote it” (Chicago Tribune)."
We're inspired by the extraordinary women around the world, like Dr. Martine Rothblatt, who have been honored with a DVF Award. Read more about them and their work.

The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation established the awards in 2010 to honor and support extraordinary women who have had the courage to fight, the power to survive and the leadership to inspire.
